Song of Blades and Heroes

Well, here they are. My first painted Song of Blades and Heroes warband in 25/28mm. They are Warrior Miniatures. Nice figures, with the right amount of detail for me to paint. More up-to-date figures have more detail than I can paint, so I feel guilty about not painting what the sculptor has done and end up not painting them at all. These are an ideal level of detail for me. And much cheapness too. You can get them at:

I also got some of the barbarians from Warrior. They are if anything better figures, so after a few minor conversions - replacing one cast spear with an axe and the rest with wire, and adding one or two shields - I've sent them off to:

who will do them justice.

Now to find a setting they will fit in. Something medieval-ish, mostly with humans. Early thoughts included Clark Ashton Smith's Hyperborea which would probably suit the barbarians but the plate armoured chaps not so much; his Zothique, but that's got a more Near East / desert feel; Hyboria, of course, which is still a front-runner; some of the Young Kingdoms in the world that features Melnibone; Fritz Leiber's Nehwon; and probably the favourite, Jack Vance's Lyonesse. Possibly an old-school D&D world like Grayhawk would do but they are usually teeming with intelligent life. I'll put up details as I think of them, not that anyone cares.

Following the basing issue the first figures are now done. The Warrior medieval types are now on slottbases, with a 10mm x 2mm magnet underneath to facilitate storage in biscuit tins. Here they are.
Also ready are some of Warrior's barbarians, which are great figures and cheap. These were brilliantly painted by Arthur at: http://www.ezpainter.co.uk/index.html

There are also some nice elves off Ebay which have a good Corum feel to them. The leader is Games Shoeshop, the others I think ex-Grenadier.

Still no idea for a setting though!

These are pictures of the initial three three warbands for an SoBaH campaign. The first are some barbarians, mostly by Warrior Miniatures but including one Grenadier and one Reaper, and wonderfully painted by Easy Painter http://www.ezpainter.co.uk/. I'm still experimenting with the camera, hence the different sorts of pictures attached.

Next are some different barbarians, old Grenadier ones available from all over the place including http://www.battlezone-miniatures.co.uk/shop. These are also painted by Easy Painter and are really nice.

Thirdly are some more Warrior Miniatures chaps, from http://www.warrioronline.demon.co.uk/25fantasy/index.htm. These are painted by me.
